This initial value of this variable is nil. Its value must be either nil or an instance of the character-formatcharacter_format_class class. It should not be set directly, but should be set using the Edit | Copy Format command on a rich-edit-menubar (on a rich-edit-dialogrich_edit_dialog_class). Edit | Paste Format can be used to paste the format to another rich-edit-panerich_edit_pane_class location.
Note that these Edit menu commands are only on the Edit menu of a rich-edit menubar, not on the standard Allegro CL Edit menu.
