According to the transphobic French academic psychiatrist, Colette Chiland, transsexualism is either caused by 'Overshrill Narcissism', or else it is 'Iatrogenic' (caused suggestively by gender therapists) or 'Mediagenic' (caused by exposure to trans images in the media). Her work has become popular with religious fundamentalist groups in the U.S., who often cite it as scientific evidence that transsexualism is "madness".
Chiland's book "Changer de sexe", published in French in 1997, made strident attacks on the identities and motivations of transsexual people. The book was reminiscent of Janice Raymond, only instead of feminism Chiland's attacks were couched in the language and authority of psychiatry as a "science".
Chiland continued her attacks of trans people in a later book in 2003, a book published coincidentally with J. Michael Bailey's book in the U.S.
Chiland's work caused a storm of protest amongst trans people in France in much the same way that Bailey's work caused in the U.S. Her hateful defamations of trans people are still being widely protested today by trans advocates in France (more, more, more). Chiland's chilling effect on the lives of trans people in France is a like a combination of the effects of Ray Blanchard, J. Michael Bailey and Janice Raymond here in the U.S.

Colette Chiland has watered down
her wine but her discourse is always as naff and full of hatred.
Since her full of hatred "Changer de sexe", and undoubtedly faced by the
reactions her book has given rise in the gay community, Colette chiland has
watered down a little her wine (of mass). This opuscule published in the
ultra-classic range of books "que sais-je", does not repreduce the reactionary
horrors against homosexual marriage and the rights given to transsexuals ("an
attack on foundations of the civilisation") of her previous works. Caution …
But the machine to produce discrimination and exclusion that is Colette Chiland
is still working, just better oiled. Some compassionate schmatz to sugar the
discrimination pill : "Some advocate acceptancy of child’s behaviour (…)
others think on the other hand the child is tormented, and not only in
accordance with background’s intolerance; on the other hand transsexualism is a
so distressing condition that it would better to avoid appearance."
Colette Chiland challenges the trans’ basic request to be called by their
adopted gender : a person living as a woman is a transsexual woman, for someone
living as a man, we must say a transsexual man… Colette Chiland’s quotation "to
talk about transsexuals, physicians said transsexual men for males, transsexual
women for females. But transsexals protest and make the opposite choice: the
males because they are women in their eyes say they are transsexual women; the
females say they are transsexual men. We cannot use the opposition transsexual
men – transsexual women anymore because don’t know who want to say what
anymore"."
Sadistic enjoyment
Recurring in her book, hypocrit usage of "one", here hides the fact that for her
ladyship Chiland and other specialists of trans’ it is a sadistic pleasure to
adress trans’ according to their biologic gender and not to their social gender.
Furthermore, Colette Chiland lies by writing "the physicians said" : she knows
very well Robert Stoller [1] <#_edn1> , from the years 50 advocated physicians
adress trans’ and talk about them in their new gender.
So Colette Chiland minimizes the number of homosexual trans’ (who love same
social gender partners). "they are very fiew, most often they are
transvestites". From does she have her statistics ? As for her outline of
homosexuality, they are worthy of the homophobic priest and shrink Tony
Anatrella : "It is not a denial of his assigned sex which leads subjects to
be homosexual. On the other hand, we could say that it is a refusal to face up
completely the sexual difference, with all its effects". And just to revive
the old "its against nature", she writes, regardless of contemporary
zoology, "But it does not exist in the animal an homosexuality to be compared
to that of human, as a choice of exclusive object".
The unhappy familiar to Colette Chiland’s papers will find her old hobby horses
on trans’ who identify themselves to the most outdated stereotypes of feminity
or masculinity. Everywhere in the world, trans’ organisations fight for the
right to work, if you ask her, typic trans’ want to be a cabaret artist or
homewife ! In so little pages, we have quite a lot of padding (her outline of
feminism is to be in stitches) and enormous blunders (the institution of "hijras"
of India would date back to one millenium while they are attested in a book
foudner of hindouism the Bagavagita). More serious is her taste for
discriminatory vocabulary, for example to describe one of her practices : "I
understood I let myself trap by his off putting, fearsome appearance, not
because he would be a caricature of woman, an untalented tranny : he was
nothing, neither man, nor woman : he was focussing attention by presenting
himself as a foil to relationship." Obviously her Ladyship Chiland’s
patients are like her readers, they are to be pitied !
As a conclusion, an unanswerable affirmation of medical institution’s Brigitte
Bardot : "I go to think noneless the idea of sex change is a mad idea."
The mad idea for the range of books "Que sais-je" is to have given to write up a
work about transsexualism to a so naff and full of hatred woman.

Colette Chiland a mis de l’eau dans son vin, mais son discours est toujours
aussi ringard et haineux.
Depuis son haineux Changer de sexe, et sans doute devant les réactions
que son livre a suscitées dans la communauté gay, Colette Chiland a mis un peu
d’eau dans son vin (de messe). Cet opuscule édité dans la collection ultra-classique
« Que sais-je », ne reproduit pas les horreurs réacs contre le mariage
homosexuel et les droits donnés aux transsexuels (« une atteinte aux fondements
de la civilisation ») de ses ouvrages précédents. Prudence...
Mais la machine à produire de la discrimination et de l’exclusion qu’est Colette
Chiland roule toujours, à peine est-elle plus huilée. Un peu de sirop
compassionnel pour faire passer la pilule de la discrimination : « Certains
se font l’avocat de l’acceptation des comportements de l’enfant (...). D’autres
pensent d’autre part que l’enfant en souffre, et pas seulement en fonction de
l’intolérance de l’environnement ; d’autre part que le transsexualisme est une
condition si douloureuse qu’il vaudrait mieux tenter d’en éviter la survenue ».
Colette Chiland récuse la demande élémentaire des trans d’être appelléEs par
leur genre d’adoption : une personne vivant en femme est UNE transsexuELLE, pour
quelqu’un vivant en homme il faut dire UN transsexuEL. Citation de Colette
Chiland « Pour parler des transsexuels, les médecins ont dit les transsexuels
pour les mâles, les transsexuelles pour les femelles. Mais les transsexuels
protestent et font le choix contraire : les mâles parce qu’ils sont des femmes à
leurs yeux, disent qu’ils sont des transsexuelles ; les femelles disent qu’elles
sont des transsexuels. On ne peut plus utiliser l’opposition
transsexuels-transsexuelles, car on ne sait plus qui veut dire quoi ».
Jouissance sadique
Récurent dans son livre, l’usage hypocrite du « on », cache ici le fait que
pour Madame Chiland et d’autres spécialistes ès trans c’est une jouissance
sadique de s’adresser aux trans en fonction de leur genre biologique et non de
leur genre social. De plus Colette Chiland ment en écrivant « les médecins ont
dit » : elle sait très bien que Robert Stoller [1 <http://www.actupparis.org/#nb1>
], dès les années 50, préconisait que les médecins s’adressent aux trans et
parlent d’eux et d’elles dans leur nouveau genre.
Ainsi Colette Chiland minimise le nombre de trans homosexuels (qui aiment des
partenaires du même genre social) : « ils sont rares, ce sont le plus souvent
des transvestis ». D’où tient-elle sa statistique ? Quant à ses aperçus de
l’homosexualité, ils sont dignes du curé-psy homophobe Tony Anatrella : « Ce
n’est pas un refus de son sexe d’assignation qui conduit un sujet à être
homosexuel. On pourrait par contre, dire que c’est un refus d’assumer
complètement la différence sexuelle, avec toutes ses conséquences ». Et
histoire de relancer le vieux « c’est anti-naturel » elle écrit, au
mépris de la zoologie contemporaine, « mais il n’existe pas chez l’animal
d’homosexualité comparable à celle de l’homme, comme choix d’objet exclusif ».
LeA malheureuxSE familierE des écrits de Colette C retrouvera ses vieux dadas
sur les trans qui s’identifient aux stéréotypes les plus dépassés de la féminité
ou de la masculinité. Partout dans le monde les associations de trans se battent
pour le droit au travail, pour elle la trans type veut être artiste de cabaret
ou femme au foyer ! En si peu de pages, on compte pas mal de remplissage (son
aperçu du féminisme est à se tordre), et des bourdes énormes (l’institution des
« hijras » d’Inde dateraient d’un millénaire, alors qu’elles sont attestées dans
un livre fondateur de l’hindouisme la Bagavagita). Bien plus grave est son goût
du vocabulaire discriminatoire, par exemple pour décrire une de ses pratiques :
« j‘ai compris que je m’étais laissée piéger par son aspect déconcertant,
effrayant, non pas parce qu’il aurait été une caricature de femme, un travelo
sans talent : il n’était rien, ni homme ni femme ; il attirait l’attention en se
présentant comme un repoussoir à la relation ». Décidément les patients de
Madame Chiland sont comme ses lecteurs, ils sont à plaindre !
En guise de conclusion, une affirmation péremptoire de la Brigitte Bardot de
l’institution médicale : « Je continue de penser néanmoins que l’idée de
changement de sexe est une idée folle ». L’idée folle, pour la collection "Que
sais-je", est d’avoir donner à rédiger un ouvrage sur le transsexualisme à une
femme aussi ringarde et haineuse.

Colette Chiland is trained as a philosopher. She retrained
as a psychoanalist and, among other things, she very quickly tackled the
"transsexual syndrome". If you ask this author with feminist, essentialist and
traditionalist pretentions, transsexualism is in her own words a "mad idea,
a"heresy". The transsexual a "pathetic patient". The transsexualism is in her
opinion an "affection steming from a very acute narcissism" and also a "torment"
and everything would to be done to avoid it". To do everything? To avoid it...
When the GAT calls her to accounts, specially on Tom Reucher’s questions (a
registered psychologist who is owner of a web site) about a follow-up she
claims to have carried out, she won't rest until she can evade one’s
responsibilities and incompetence...

Philosophe de formation, Colette Chiland s’est convertie à la psychanalyse et
s’est très vite attaquée au syndrome transsexuel. Pour cette auteure se voulant
féministe, essentialiste et traditionnaliste, le transsexualisme est une “idée
crasy, folle”, une “hérésie”; le transsexuel un “patient pathétique”. Le
transsexualisme pour elle est une “affection issue d’un narcissisme suraigu”
mais également une “souffrance et qu’il faut tout faire pour l’éviter”. Tout
faire ? Pour l’éviter… Lorsque le GAT lui demande des comptes, et notamment aux
questions de Tom Reucher (psychologue, adresse site) sur un suivi qu’elle
prétend avoir effectué, elle n’aura de cesse de fuir ses responsabilités et son
incompétence…
