Project Sub-Group: UMDL Conspectus Search and Retrieval

Mission Statement

Conspectus search and retrieval is focused on the general problem of forming teams of agents to accomplish tasks within the UMDL. While the activities of team members depend on their specializations, the basic process of forming teams cuts across domain-specific agent types. In general, the phases of conspectus search and retrieval include:

  1. Task specification
  2. Task decomposition
  3. Subtask planning (matching needs to agent capabilities)
  4. Negotiation
  5. Subtask assignment
  6. Subtask accomplishment
  7. Solution synthesis
  8. Model updating
Note that these activities need not proceed strictly in this order (there can be many subloops among the steps). Moreover, since subtasks can be further broken down at times, these activities can be recursive. Finally, because of the asynchronous, concurrent achievement of tasks in the UMDL, this process can be going on in many places at the same time.
