This group (Heifer International) was mentioned on NPR the other
night.	They seem to do a relatively efficient job of turning money
into into something that enables people/communities to step up from
abysmal poverty.

(Not that I'm necessarily against providing food or goods directly in
emergencies, but that sort of safety net typically further disrupts
the economies of subsistence/low tech agrarian communities.)
