About the Event

Scientific advances in novel photoactive materials have offered a great potential towards applications relevant to energy, sensing, lighting and health. These materials are typically poly- or nano-crystalline, and therefore require a significant effort on engineering their abundant interfaces and nanostructure to realize efficient optoelectronic devices. This work is based on the combination of basic physics of new materials, chemistry and fabrication engineering. In this research talk, I will cover three cases regarding this topic: -Atomic-layer-deposited (ALD) ultrathin photoactive materials on nanostructures for infrared photodetector and lasing. -Materials interface engineering of metal-halide perovskites for efficient single- and multi-junction planar solar cells. -Surface and matrix engineering for certified record-performing colloidal quantum dot (CQD) infrared solar cells.

Biography

Dr. Jixian (Bruce) Xu received the Ph.D degree in 2017 under the supervision of Prof. Edward Sargent in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at University of Toronto. His current research activities focus on constructing novel optoelectronic devices via the materials interface engineering, charge transport management and photophysics studies in emerging semiconductors, such as colloidal quantum dots (CQDs), 2D/3D perovskites and atomic-layer-deposition photoactive materials. Dr. Xu received M.Sc and B.Sc degrees from Department of Optoelectronics at Beijing Institute of Technology. His master work was on the optical/electrical design and digital signal processing for 3D laser imaging systems (Lidar).
