Knowledge Representation
The significant point of the MAX architecture is that it has to be easily
accessable and modifiable by the metareasoning engine. This means that the
knowledge must be uniform, therefore all knowledge is declarative. There is
some procedural knowledge at the interpreter level, but this is considered
part of the behaviors of the kernel.
Learning
The level of learning that is implicit in the architecture is when the
kernel modifies the knowledge using procedural information. This method of
learning is monotonic, but also deliberative in that it chooses the method
of execution.
Organization
The distinction between different levels of knowledge, and the distinction
between the knowledge and the kernel which can modify the knowledge as it
deems necessary using metalevel reasoning shows a definite structure of
unique components in the architecture.
General Performance
The extensive use of metalevel knowledge to the extent that the author
states it should be used is sure to slow down the system in the absence of
any defined structures to regulate the use of that knowledge.
