Knowledge Representation
The knowledge in AIS is all handled by the global
database, which is implemented atop a blackboard system. Some of
the knowledge is implemented using the BB* conceptual network
representation. All this knowledge is in declarative form. Other
knowledged, that stored in the blackboard's knowledge areas (KA) (e.g.
skills), has a disctinctive procedural flavor to it. However, the
totality of the knowledge is in symbolic form.
Learning
There are no current learning mechanisms implemented on AIS.
Organization
The architecture is disctinctively modular.
With the main modules being:
dynamic control architecture,
asynchronous I/O subsystem,
dynamic control architecture,
General Performance
Since the AIS architecture was specifically designed to handle
real-time applications, it has correspondingly good performance.
Actions are taken fast, if they need to be. If more cogitation is
allowed the system will take its time and determine a better (best) answer.
Other
The architecture is nothing more than a shell on which specific
applications can be built.
