Modular Organization
A modular organization is one in which different functional components
are separated from one another, a technique adopted from
software engineering.
This is in contrast to a composite organization in which there is no
separation between functions. Modular organization is also distinct
from
hierarchical organization. Modular
organization is chiefly concerned with the horizontal design of a
system whereas hierarchical organization involves a consideration of the
vertical nature of the design. Thus, each level in a hierarchical
system may be sub-divided into functionally-distinct modules.
