A Problem Space Architecture: Soar
Over Soar's long history, many articles have been written about
its utility as
an agent of general
intelligence. This analysis considers only a few
of these papers and books. In addition to its use as a cognitive
architecture,
Allen Newell proposed that the Soar architecture can be examined as a
unified theory of cognition,
meaning that results can be interpreted
in terms of (human) cognitive mechanisms as well as performance measures.
The following describes the Soar architecture in cursory detail,
including a discussion of the underlying assumptions and motivating
hypotheses of the architecture. The many properties of the architecture
are described and several of the capabilities of the Soar architecture
are examined in relation to specific implementations.
