Elaboration Phase
Elaboration Phase
The elaboration phase represents the acquisition of knowledge about the current
situation with the firing of
long-term memory productions. All productions
which match fire in this phase monotonically. Additionally, productions
may add new elements to working memory which in turn enable additional
productions to fire. Thus, the elaboration phase has a
parallel component
(all productions which match fire) and a
serial component
(production firings can enable the firing of additional productions in the
same elaboration phase). Since elaboration is monotonic, it continues until
no new productions are proposed for firing. This point is known as
quiescence.
