Uniform Access to Knowledge

Uniform Access to Knowledge in PRODIGY

Since all knowledge in PRODIGY is represented uniformly, all the learning modules can have access to the knowledge. This leads to a glass box representation in which all knowledge is explicitly made available to every process in the system. This is contrast to black box representations in which learned knowledge is not available for inspection or modification. The glass box approach allows complete knowledge of what preconditions can lead to what actions but forces an immediate interpretation -- there is no temporal extent. Thus, the operator actions require a complete and consistent representation of the world.
