The generic memory is accessible to
both the reflective processes and the
planner. The lexipedia is accessible to both the text interpreter and generator. However, there is no
exchange of knowledge between the groups. Thus, knowledge access to certain
modules is restricted, even though there is information common to both
tasks. This requires dual representations of the same knowledge, for both
natural language and planning tasks.
In addition, there is no way for either task to guided by knowledge of the
other. For instance, the text
interpreter cannot gain context information from the agent's current
goals, which are usually relevant to whatever "conversation" it is engaged
in. The separation does permit optimized methods and representations, which
can make up for this inefficiency.
