ATLANTIS
Gat supplies two extensions to the subsumption
architecture to make it more versatile. First, the
deliberative layer facilitates the addition of
planning modules that allow the deployment of
the agents in more environments. Second, the
sequencing layer facilitates the implementation of
the extension called
"cognizant failure". This extension allows the agent
to try additional methods to achieve a goal when the intial method fails.
This is extremely useful when reacting to the
environment since things could change during the course of some action, or the
agent could lag in it's sensing.
