Architectures that contain a Subsumption Component

Subsumption architectures, pioneered by Brooks, are non-symbolic alternatives to more "traditional" AI systems. They are specifically designed to be highly reactive allowing them to operate in dynamic environments where planning-oriented systems may fail. Subsumption architecture-based agents are constructed from a hierarchy of behaviors arising from distributed processes. Subsumption architecture components have been integrated into some symbolic planning systems in order to increase their reactivity.
