• MAX is designed to allow the explicit specification and control of its reasoning and learning capabilities
• MAX is a "Glass-Box" architecture that allows the system to reason about its capabilities much like other systems reason about base-level domains.
• In order to do this, MAX agents must be able to operate on and manipulate their internal states, goals, knowledge, reasoning and processes in addition to the details of the base-level domain knowledge.
