• Adjustable attention mechanism results in variable reactivity level
• Reduced and abstracted description passed to LABYRINTH for classification
• May post new problems (goals) to active memory for DAEDALUS to solve
• Monitors effects of action carried out by MAEANDER; may detect failure and post new problem
• May detect high-priority situation and cause interrupt
