Developing concurrently with Integrated Cognitive Architectures is the theory of what constitues an architecture for intelligence. Each individual author has his or her own viewpoints, and of course develops their respective system accordingly. There are however some 'meta-level' theories about what, in general, is necessary for intelligence. A select few of the more promenent theories are discussed in general below. Each theory then is linked to specific architectures which either seem to support or refute its claims.
