Newell has made many contributions to artificial intelligence and cognitive science. Two major ones were his theories of cognition, and a realization of those theories in SOAR.
Much of Newell's life life was dedicated to AI. Simon and Newell introduced Means-End Analysis in GPS. He was also an early proponent of list-processing.
