Navigation in Subsumption
Navigation in Subsumption
Since they are based on the behaviors of insects, subsumption agents
exhibit many similar behaviors. Chief among their capabilities is the
ability to move around in the world, avoiding stationary as well as
dynamic objects. Navigation is one of the major tasks that
subsumption agents have been applied and this behavior is extremely reactive (compared to other cognitive
agents).
Navigation is typically accomplished by several layers: a low level
module that avoids objects (suddenly appearing ones included), and a
higher level that moves the agent in a particular direction, ignorant
of obstacles. The combination provides a simple way of getting from
point A to point B without any explicit path planning.
