Goal-Directed Behavior in Soar

Goal-Directed Behavior in Soar

Goals direct decision-making behavior in Soar and are generated automatically when unambiguous decisions cannot be made. The symbolic goal structure of an intelligent agent is implemented by the goal-subgoal hierarchy in Soar, known as the context stack. The ability to achieve any goal (with the appropriate knowledge) is implemented by impasses, caused by ambiguities in preferences as determined by the decision procedure, resulting in the creation of subgoals.
