Description of the Soar Architecture

A diagram of the Soar architecture

The Soar architecture is designed around the following eight mechanisms:

  1. Problem Spaces
  2. Long-Term Memory
  3. Attribute-Value Representation
  4. Preference Memory
  5. Decision Procedure
  6. Perceptual-Motor Subsystems
  7. Goal-Directed Behavior
  8. Chunking-Based Learning
These mechanisms interact to produce general, intelligent behavior.
