Sensing Strategies in Icarus
Sensing Strategies in Icarus
Icarus utilizes an attention mechanism,
which is focuses on a specific object or
event in sensor range via the
ARGUS module. It is a form of
eager sensing because the module focuses primarily on the
percept of highest current interest. However,
there is the possibility of distraction if a recognizably more
important task or object can take
priority from the current task.
This prevents the system
from having to absorb and define every object within sensor range,
and so increases
reaction time
and decreases space requirements. However, the authors were never very
clear on how attention is directed to a specific object,
or how individual objects
necessarily become distinguishable from the rest of the scene.
