Efflorescence of Adaptation
Efflorescence of Adaptation
Humans demonstrate a remarkable amount of
versatility in their behavior.
Playing games, inventing games, entertainment, even recipes, are
all demonstrative of the variety of daily and routine human activity.
In considering this behavior, which he characterized as
efflorescence of adaption,
Newell argued that such behavior
was demonstration of an underlying
symbol system in humans.
Such a symbol system can provide for the effectively infinite
variety of behaviors and responses humans engage in on a regular
(and mostly unnoticed) basis.
