Style of control in the Adaptive Intelligent Systems Architecture
Style of Control in the Adaptive Intelligent Systems Architecture
All of the AIS processes (cognition, perception, and action) run in
parallel, to maintain continuous, concurrent, asynchronous operation. However, to
maintain coherence, all processes
consult with the globally available control
plan. The knowledge sources used by the global database (which is also universally accessible) can contain relatively
large code fragments, so to bound latencies their operation must be
interruptible. The satisficing cycle
mediates the operation of the reasoning processes, also providing for time-stress responsivity and graceful degradation. Even in the face
of newly amassed knowledge, this cycle maintains speed independence.
