Focused Reasoning in Adaptive Intelligent Systems Architectures
Focused Reasoning in Adaptive Intelligent Systems Architectures
An AIS only has limited resources to handle the multiple problems in
its allotted response time. Therefore, the system must be careful in
its meta-level decisions, i.e. when choosing what tasks to devote
resources to. This becomes more important, and more difficult, when
considering the varying priorities of different events. Both aspects
require greater complexity in the control methods. The dynamic control architecture allows
system to decide what kind of problem to address, what kind of
reasoning to perform, and what kind of knowledge to apply. The satisficing reasoning cycle uses
these decisions to identify and schedule the appropriate potential
reasoning operations.
