TOYOTA AI SEMINAR SERIES Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Stained-Glass Conference Room (3725 CSE) 4:00 - 5:30 PM Tuesday, November 6, 2007 Name-that-Tune and other Naming Problems in Music Information Retrieval by Gregory Wakefield Associate Professor Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Abstract: Music Information Retrieval draws upon a variety of disciplines to address basic questions related to music as a source of information. "Name that tune" is a famous example that has generated much attention in the MIR community. Other "naming problems" exist, however, such as singer identification and style classification. This talk presents an overview of the MIR field, reviews several approaches that are being taken to address these naming problems, and summarizes the work of my students and colleagues.
