AI Seminar ------------------------------- Tuesday, November 18th, 2003 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm 175 ATL (Large Conference Room) "Reinforcement Learning in the Social and Medical Sciences" Susan Murphy Professor, Statistics Department Senior Research Scientist, Survey Research Center University of Michigan ---------------------------------- This talk will discuss some of the unique challenges the reinforcement learning field faces in order to use reinforcement learning in the social and medical sciences. These include high noise/signal ratio, unknown system dynamics and selection bias. This talk will focus on learning from a batch of historical data and/or a batch of experimental data. A new method for learning an optimal policy will be discussed.
